Intern Diaries : First Day. AHHHHH.

Once upon a time I slept until noon. Then I started interning at RjM. The end.

...well there's a lot more to the story, but this is just the beginning of my internship here at RjM. It all started when my alarm went off at 6:50 am and it finally sank in that today was the day that I started "adulting". The start of my very first internship had me feeling very anxious in the best way possible.

Plot twist - I was excited to work.

My outlook going into this internship that made me excited, rather than fearful, was that I have been going to school for a few years. I've learned a thing or two. However, I am never going to know if I truly like the career path I have in mind until I go for it. I've talked about what I want to do with my life and here's an opportunity to start showing something for myself. The thought of creating and implementing work that will not only represent me, but also, a company was invigorating. Things I've learned will not only be tested on a scantron, but with company dollars. You hear about it, but when a company decides to invest in you and your work it is exciting, not scary.

My commute is about forty minutes and I arrived on time. Wearing my corporate best, I walked through the doors and began my first day. I was greeted by most of the team and was directed to a big desk in the front. Just like most first days on the job, there was paperwork. After being introduced to the company software and protocols, I was already assigned tasks - not fetching coffee.

Did I feel overwhelmed? Heck yeah. I was being assigned tasks for clients due within a few weeks. Additionally, I was invited to sit in on a meeting with a client THAT Wednesday. As nervous as I was, I couldn't help but be grateful. I'm working for a company that trusts me enough to get me involved right away.

The peak of my first day was hanging out with the staff in the production room. I found out shooting each other classifies as team bonding. THEY GAVE ME A NERF GUN. For a split second, I felt like fictional CEO Ari Gold (when in reality I was at the bottom of the corporate food chain).

In case you were curious, I survived my first day with no bullet wounds.
